yes. i'm blogging about my birthday :)

one lazy day, I just thought of Googling my birth date, curious of what would appear in the search results (yes, being narcissistic am I :D). Then i found out that I share the same birthday with some popular people in history, that my birthday was the day one very talented fashion designer died, that my birthday (same with the year) was the date that a volcano which has been dormant for alsmost 600 years erupted for the first time and affected a large portion of the globe.

So let's begin with the tragic side. The day Mt. Pinatubo erupted.
Well, according to some sources, Pinatubo began its pre-eruption stage on June 1991 and then ended up having its climatic eruption on June 15, (my roommate's birthday!) 1991 which resulted to an enormous depression in its summit, forming a caldera, which was 145 meters below the tip of the summit. wow. Thank you that I wasn't born anywhere near Mt. Pinatubo! This made Pinatubo eruption the 2nd largest eruption for the 20th century. The largest volcanic eruption of the 20th century was the 1912 eruption of Katmai-Novarupta in Alaska.

another tragedy: the death of Yves St. Laurent
A French designer, one of the celebrated personalities in the fashion industry, Yves Saint Laurent was indeed a significant loss in the fashion world. BTW, the YSL brand and fashion house is his. Though I'm not really a fan of high-end fashion like his, I still think that YSL has proven his worth and that his name will be not that easy to forget.

and now to people who share the same birthday with me. first, Alanis Morisette

I know I've listened to her songs (and I like it!) but I can't seem to remember the titles. She has won numerous Grammy awards and she's Canadian (Hi Robyn from How I Met Your Mother). But now, I don't think she's singing that much. Or if she were, I'm quite unfamiliar with her songs lately.

ohh wait how could I forget Heidi Klum!
well I've known her for being one of Victoria Secret's Angels and the girl who's married to Seal (which was quite unexpected for me). Heidi has been one of the famous fashion and tv personalities and according to wikipedia, she was in Ella Enchanted and The Devil Wears Prada. Hmm. I should review those films.

Aside from personally knowing four people in my social life that also also have the same birthday with me, it's cool to know these celebrities and personalities who are also affiliated with the first day of June. Btw, people born in June 1 tend to be like this :)

And yeah, I'm gonna miss my day. So June 1, see you in one year!(more or less)

An Identified 19th Birthday Wish

"what do you want for your 19th birthday?"

I've been musing over this question for quite some time, because honestly, i don't really know what I really want to get right now. And now that my Junior Term Abroad (JTA) dream is soon to be fulfilled (2 months left!) makes it even a bit more harder for me to think of something that I want for my 19th birthday. I'm not really crazy about gadgets, like i'm not a bit interested in upgrading my 2-yr old cellphone nor dumping my old laptop which is quite a b*tch if you ask me yet has been with me through all these years, helping me write all those A papers (HAHA) and letting me watch TV series (yes, one of my guilty pleasures) online.

so after months of observing my friends, people and everybody around me, thinking about what could possibly be missing in my life right now, I have figured it out. well, I think this is what i want at the moment.

a camera <3

no no i'm not a photographer to begin with but realizing that in 2 months i will be all by myself in Korea, and that i have this lust to explore and travel the world someday, (Asia first, then Europe, then USA haha), i guess a decent camera would be a good company.

if ever i do get one, then these three things would seem enough to sum up the scenes/things i would like to preserve on an image: motion, nature and art.

on a side note, i actually envy my other friends since they seem to know what they actually want in life and definitely never runs out things on their wish list while here i am still struggling for at least one potential wish, haha :))

but whether i would get this for my birthday or not, either way's fine with me. but i would also love to get myself my own camera with my own savings hehe well that's malabo since i don't really know how to save well :D

yeah, ONE DAY TO GO TILL MY 18TH YEAR ENDS :O NICE.

Birthday Surprise Fail

two days before my actual birthday, my sister caught me by surprise.

though not exactly, since my mother already let it slip that my sister's kinda working on some video thing lately.

for some reasons, my sister forgot that I was subscribed to her Youtube channel and tadda! i found her birthday gift in my Youtube homepage when i am supposed to find out about it on my birthday. FAIL :)))

well, i was supposed to close the tab and wait for June 1 to watch the vid, but yeah, curiosity got the better of me and well ..nothing seem to stop me from clicking that PLAY button. I'm sure my sister's pretty disappointed at this time since the surprise was spoiled (well yeah, I'm such a surprise spoiler :D), and she's wishing to get hold of Dastan's Dagger (Prince of Persia) to turn back time HAHA. but one thing I learned today: you don't really need to wait for the clock to strike "it's your birthday!" to know that there are people who sincerely love and care for you :)

To my sister Yanyan, whom i personally call Igit, THANK YOU :) and i miss you haha. dang sad i don't get to slap you on my birthday :P
